The Rubbishness of Motor Racing

You might be reading this post and thinking, Now hang on didn't he say he liked motor racing. I'm telling you I still do. I, and I'm sure many people are the same, am worried about the future of motor racing. It's on every modern day circuit architechts mind these days, SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY. I'm a big fan of safety, I personally would hate to lose my favourite driver because the circuit wasn't safe enough. But there's a time when safer circuits go too far.

Hermann Tilke, you may know "designs" tracks. His best work includes destroying Ostereichring and Hockenheim and turning them into silly short circuits. He was obviously looking for money. Many believe he is destroying Formula 1 and this includes me. The only tracks that remain untouched by Tilke hands are Albert Park, Monza, Interlagos and Suzuka and subsequently these are the most exciting grand prix's on the calender. Other than Spa which doesn't count. It won't be long until there will be an entirely Tilkefied F1 calender. And if this occurs, I wont be watching it anymore.

There are some good tracks he has designed though. The redesign of Imola's front straight is a ripper, and it most certainly returns the circuit to its fast flowing origins. Yas Marina Circuit is an okay track and I expect Korea to be half decent as well. Other than that, the rest are rubbish. And we can most certainly tease Tilke for the massive mistake that was Bejing International Street Circuit. I just hope that F1 doesn't turn out the way its headed. Heres a tip F1 might like to take
Add some fast flowing circuits to the calendar (Philip Island, Eurospeedway, Brands Hatch, Zolder, Imola, Infineon and Montreal is a good start)

Excuses Excuses

It's amazing how people use so many excuses these days. A prime example of this was about 2 weeks ago when Jamie Whincup accused traffic for a crash when effectively there was no-one else around him. He obviously didn't want to take ownership for a very rookie mistake.

You don't have to look far to find excuses being used elsewhere. Almost every movie you see around nowadays uses at least one excuse. excuses for not going somewhere, excuses to go somewhere and sometimes excuses just for the strange reason of making excuses.

I know I use excuses everyday. Sometimes just to make a joke, sometimes complaining. eg. Why should I have to do the dishes, she didn't do them last time. Sometimes excuses go to far and become blame. And blame is a bad thing. It is impossible in a sinful world to cut excuses out of life completely. But what we can do is try and take responsibility for our mistakes. For without them, we can't learn from them.
